Surely Goodness

This view. These girls. My heart.

This week at camp was hands down the most exhausting week I have had yet emotionally, spiritually and physically. Mornings were full of braiding hair, afternoons were full of one-on-ones, and nights were full of deep laughter. There were high high's and low low's and everything in between, but in that God stretched
out His mighty hand and gave each of us the strength that only He can provide.

God opened doors for us to speak truth to campers in ways that we wouldn't have expected. One way was during the night hike. Night hikes are when you walk through the woods on a path in silence with no flashlight until you get to a field and then you tell them what God lays on your heart. First of all, I am terrified of the dark and second of all I was at a loss of what to say. I had never lead night hike before, but God came through like He always does and He laid things on my heart that I really felt like the girls needed to hear. That night then led into the following day where the speaker gave more truth to them and slowly, one by one, they started breaking. Not because of my words or even the speakers, but through the words God gave to His servants to reach the broken.

God made Himself known in so many ways this week, one of the biggest ways was at the glory bowl. There was a girl from the high school program that stood up and said, "This week I watched God part the waters in front of me. The mountain in front of me jumped to the side." I have chill bumps just thinking about how she felt to watch our God pour out His love upon her in her deepest sorrows. This week that girl was able to see that God is not a God that is far off, but that He is closer to us that we could ever understand or comprehend. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm  34:18, as we are in the midst of our brokenness He meets us where we are at and lavishes His almighty love on us. He covers us in grace and pushes the mountain aside so that we can walk in the newness of life and on streets of mercy. My heart is so full thinking about the burden that was taken off her shoulders and put on His so that she can walk in freedom.

One of the most amazing things about God and camp is watching Him show up. He's never too early and never too late, but when He shows up there is no denying His great and awesome power. Beyond that, His great and awesome mercy towards the lives of those He is interceding for.

The reason we are counselors, kitchen workers, boat drivers, maintenance men, speakers, singers and everything in between is to bring Him glory and to watch His story unfold in each campers life. God has blessed us with being a part of it, but He is the Ultimate piece in the equation.

1 Peter 4:10-11
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."
