Racing Heart, Dead Soul

Today my geography teacher made a comment about how we are 'too quiet to be an 11am class' and then he proceeded to ask if we have ever heard of an amazing thing called caffeine. In which a kid in the class commented and said, "Sometimes your heart is still racing but you're dead inside." to which the whole classroom bursts out into a roar of laugher, myself included. However, I really started to pick apart this statement, I first applied it into a humorous way to describe college and then I applied it to a sad and dark statement to which I then realized that if that statement is taken spiritually, it's actually extremely sad.

My eyes quickly opened to the world that we live in today. Day to day people are walking around with their hearts racing, their mind is on work, family, school and a slew of other things, but they are [spiritually] dead inside. Though cells are multiplying, though hearts are pumping 6,000 to 7,500 liters of blood though the body, though people are taking in 500 liters of pure oxygen in every day they are dead if they aren't alive in Christ. Let me repeat that. If your heart isn't beating for the One who created you, you are dead.

I know this is an extremely gruesome thought, but so is the story of Jesus' death and yet in it there is beauty made.

I was watching a video on YouTube by Valspar called Color for the Colorblind (if you want to watch it skip to 1:30) and in it they are given special glasses that cause them to see colors for the first time in their lives. The video brought me to tears (then again, just abut everything brings me to tears when it comes to God). One person saw their first ever sunset and asked, "Is this what you see every day?" The joy danced behind his eyelids at the beautiful picture that God was painting for him. The next person took off the glasses after seeing a world of color and described what she sees as "dull". There are so many other points that they say that point directly to this point: just like a world without color, a world without faith in Jesus is grey and dull. And that's not what God intended for us, He wants us to stand in awe of His presence in the way that these people experience color. At the rising and the setting of the sun all we should have is praise to pour out... And yet we don't.

We, who have put our faith in Christ, have become like the people who grew up seeing the full spectrum of colors: unenthusiastic and lukewarm. Well, let me tell you, we serve a big God and He has called us to far more than lukewarm timid faith and a loss of amazement for His glory. After all He does tell us to make disciples of All nations, and if you ask me, that is no small task.

The big thing at the end of the video is that one of the people say that they don't want to take the glasses off, and we shouldn't want to either. Because ours doesn't just see His glory in sunsets, but it sees His glory in people. And as co-heirs of Christ we should want nothing less than to share the beautiful "Color" that is our Savior with the world. We should not just be okay with people walking around with hearts racing but are dead inside. We should be telling people that our hearts can be racing and be dancing for joy inside!

I mean, why wouldn't you want to? Today we learned in Child Phycology that at just nine weeks a babies heart is fully functioning with its tiny valves, Pulmonary Veins and all. And that is just simply amazing by a majestic, all-powerful God!

How Great is our God (World Edition) - [ feat. Chris Tomlin]

I chose this version because this is just a small glimpse of how amazing our God is that we serve! He created language and yet the love we have for Him is the same. And that's absolutely beautiful!

Psalm 89:11-14
"The heavens are Yours, and Yours also the earth; You founded the world and all that is in it. You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at Your name. Your arm is endowed with power; Your hand is strong, Your right hand exalted. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before You."
